Public Records Request

Pursuant to the Idaho Public Records Act, Idaho Code Title 74, Chapter 1

The City of Roberts is committed to transparency and providing access to public records in accordance with Idaho law.


How to Request Records

All public records requests must be submitted in writing using the City of Roberts Public Records Request Form.

Response Time

The City will respond to your request within three (3) working days of receipt.

If additional time is needed to locate, review, redact, or compile records, the City will provide written notice and respond within up to ten (10) working days, or as otherwise allowed under Idaho law.


What to Know Before Submitting a Request

To help us process requests efficiently:

  • Requests must be specific and clearly describe the records being requested
  • The City cannot create new records or conduct research to fulfill requests
  • Requests must be for existing identifiable records
  • Some records may be exempt from disclosure under Idaho law
  • Staff may ask for clarification if a request is unclear or overly broad

City of Roberts Public Records Policy

To ensure consistency and fairness, the City follows this policy:

  1. All public records requests must be submitted in writing using the City’s form.
  2. The City will respond within three (3) working days by approving, denying, or requesting additional time.
  3. Requests must clearly identify the records being requested.
  4. The City is not required to create new records or perform research.
  5. Staff may assist in narrowing or clarifying requests when needed.
  6. Some records may be exempt from disclosure under Idaho law.
  7. Fees apply as allowed by Idaho Code and City policy.
  8. Advance payment may be required for large or complex requests.
  9. All fees must be paid before records are released.
  10. Records that require archive retrieval or special processing may include additional costs.

Fees

Fees are charged in accordance with Idaho Code and City policy.

Idaho Residents

  • First 100 pages of standard black-and-white copies: no charge
  • First 2 hours of staff time: no charge
  • After that, fees may apply for copies, staff time, redaction, special formats, archived records, and mailing costs

Non-Idaho Residents

Non-Idaho residents may be charged for the full cost of fulfilling a request, including copies, staff time, redaction, special formats, archived records, and mailing costs, as allowed by Idaho law.

The standard free benefits for Idaho residents (100 pages and 2 hours of staff time) may not apply.

Payment

  • Fees are based on actual City costs as allowed by law
  • Prepayment may be required for large or complex requests
  • Records will be released once all fees are paid

Appeals

If a request is denied, you may appeal in writing to the City of Roberts within 180 calendar days of the denial notice.
