Kyler Place
Councilmember Kyler Place was born, raised, and has spent most of his life in Southeast Idaho. Growing up in the close-knit farming community of West Jefferson, Kyler divided his time between reading, working on the farm, and spending time with his family—especially his many brothers, who remain some of his closest friends.
While he does not follow sports closely today, Kyler wrestled for West Jefferson High School, where he gained more than athletic experience. Through wrestling, he learned the value of sportsmanship, respectful leadership, and mutual learning. One lesson that stayed with him is the idea that “home is where you sleep at night.” Today, that home is Roberts, Idaho.
Before moving to Roberts, Kyler worked at Ace Hardware in St. Anthony, beginning as a Sales Associate and working his way up to Assistant Manager. During his time there, he developed a strong knowledge of hardware and management, but more importantly, a deep appreciation for working with people. Customers and coworkers alike knew they could come to him with questions. If he didn’t have the answer, his response was simple: “Let’s figure it out together.”
Kyler later met and quickly fell in love with his wife, Sylvia. Together they are raising their energetic and intelligent son, who will turn five this year. After living in St. Anthony and Idaho Falls, they purchased their first home in Roberts in 2023. They value the quiet, peaceful atmosphere and the friendly spirit of the community. Kyler is grateful to raise his family in Roberts while serving as a stay-at-home father and caretaker of their home. He also appreciates living midway between his parents in Hamer and Terreton and Sylvia’s parents in Idaho Falls.
Following an eight-year break from formal education, Kyler returned to school and completed his Associate’s Degree in General Studies at Brigham Young University–Idaho. Although his formal education concludes there for now, he remains a lifelong learner. He spends much of his time reading and studying topics such as technology, history, and writing. While comfortable with digital tools, Kyler also enjoys analog technology—you may find him typing on one of his typewriters, listening to vinyl records, stargazing, or tending a garden in search of what he calls “moments of wonder and awe.”
January 2026 marks Kyler’s first time serving in public office as a member of the Roberts City Council. He is honored to serve the community and approaches the role with curiosity, humility, and a commitment to learning. A strong supporter of libraries and their role as centers of knowledge and connection, he is especially proud of the Roberts City Library and the programs it offers residents.
As he begins his service on the council, Kyler is committed to asking thoughtful questions, listening carefully, and working collaboratively. Guided by both appreciation for the past and hope for the future, he brings the same mindset he shared at the hardware store: “Let’s figure it out together.”
